The Public Order Act 1986 (c.64) is the major piece of public order legilsation in the United Kingdom.

Part 1 (New Offences)

• S1 Riot
• S2 Violent Disorder
• S3 Affray
• S4 Fear or Provocation of Violence
• S4A Intentional harassement, alarm or distress
• S5 Harassement, alarm or distress
• S9 Abolishing Common Law Offences

Part 2 (Processions and Assemblies)

Introduced significant controls on public assemblies, notably sections 14A, 14B, 14C added in 1994 by the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 to control raves and "free parties".

Part 3 (Racial Hatred)

• S17 Defined Racial Hatred
• S18 - S22 Prohibiting acts likely to stir up racial hatred
• S23 - S25 Outlawed racially inflammatory material; introduced power of entry, search and forfeiture.
