Bankruptcy -- there are several types of bankruptcy. Bankruptcy is authorized under the United States Constitution. Most of the statute can be found in Title 11 United States Code. Bankruptcy types are: Chapter 7 (liquidation); Chapter 9 (for municipalities); Chapter 11 (business reorganizations); Chapter 12 (farm reorganizations); and Chapter 13 (personal reorganizations, formerly called the wage earner plan).
